Ari Adler once said,  ¨It is important we have a checks and balances system. A bicameral Legislature provides a diversity of membership, leadership and an outlook that can t be achieved in an unicameral legislature. ¨ The constitution, signed on September 17, 1787, created a bicameral national legislature, containing two separate chambers, The Senate and The House of Representatives. While Colonists had rebelled against British rule during the Revolutionary War, they drew out ideas about a new government centered around and pertaining to their experiences as British subjects. During this time it was obvious to why the delegates needed and formed an entirely different government. The constitution s preamble clearly states why; â€Å"We the†¦show more content†¦Madison argued strongly for a strong central government that would unite the country. He certainly asked himself; how does the Constitution guard against tyranny and how can we improve a nation with equal power div ision. The Constitution guards against tyranny because of of a bicameral legislature, federalism and the system of checks and balances. First off, the Constitution guarded against tyranny through a bicameral legislature. The Dictionary.com definition of a bicameral government defines it as; â€Å"A governmental body with two houses or chambers, such as the US Congress or British Parliament.† What this is saying is that Congress is made up of the House of Representatives, and the Senate. To understand what the House of Representatives and the Senate are, further details need to be explained. The House of Representatives is apart of the Legislative branch, having the capability to create and pass federal laws. In total there are 435 votes spread out among the 50 states, determined by population and nothing else. The large states only wanted a House of Representatives, where representation was based on population, technically giving them more power. The only conflict was that the smaller states disagreed and wanted fair representation throughout all the states.
